Perfectionism + Weight Loss

This is how the equation looks for perfectionists:

  • Establish a goal
  • Plan!
  • Plan it!
  • Don’t follow the plan.
  • Get angry, get down on yourself, and feel sorry for yourself
  • Do not abandon the plan if you feel exhausted by all your emotional beatings.

This is a clear indication that this doesn’t work and will not work.

This is the exact same equation, but without the perfectionist:

  • Establish a goal
  • Plan!
  • Plan it!
  • Don’t follow the plan.
  • Be patient and observe.
  • Keep moving forward to reach your goals

Do you see how perfectionists are not able to succeed?

You will eventually go against your plan. Being a perfectionist doesn’t allow for any flexibility.

Keep in mind that plans are guidelines and not the final word. If we want to stick to our plans for the rest of their lives, then we need to be flexible with our plans.

As I continue to march, I keep my 2013 goals in mind: To be my strongest, leanest, and healthiest self. I remind myself to stop being perfectionists and to stay loving, flexible, and patient with myself.
